The region is very suitable for the rice cultivation, during the month of April-may they start planting the rice nursery into the wet field. The water is very well needed so that the fields are well connected with drainage and channels, for the few months, the water is kept within the rice fields and then when the paddy grows the water is let to flow off by making an outlet.

villagers in the field are very careful while harvesting. The picture has been taken in the month of august 20,in fact during this month not all the areas of rice are fully grown but which are grown are harvested accordingly.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

There are many other activities which the village does, and the inhabitants love what they do to sustain in the valley. Agriculture being the main occupation for the livelihood, the people also go out into the forest, collect woods, local vegetables, collect ropes from the specific trees and many other activities. There is none in the village who doesn't love to go to the forest and hunt and gather. It has been a part and partial of the dwellers since many ages.

The men and women have a definite type of activities, like in the picture a villager is preparing a rope out of a bamboo, he may use the rope for the purpose of tying within the fence, or he may sometimes make  a carpet. There are many other activities which the men performs. On the other hand, the women apart from going to the fields they also performs activities like weaving, feeding the domestic animals like pigs and hens , collect firewoods etc.

Cultivation and Harvesting(information related)
Methods of growing differ greatly in different localities, but in most Asian countries the traditional hand methods of cultivating and harvesting rice are still practiced. The fields are prepared by plowing (typically with simple plows drawn by water buffalo), fertilizing (usually with dung or sewage), and smoothing (by dragging a log over them). The seedlings are started in seedling beds and, after 30 to 50 days, are transplanted by hand to the fields, which have been flooded by rain or river water. During the growing season, irrigation is maintained by dike-controlled canals or by hand watering. The fields are allowed to drain before cutting.

Rice when it is still covered by the brown hull is known as paddy; rice fields are also called paddy fields or rice paddies. Before marketing, the rice is threshed to loosen the hulls—mainly by flailing, treading, or working in a mortar—and winnowed free of chaff by tossing it in the air above a sheet or mat.

`YAKI TATO( keak dolu)

yaki tato-keak

    INTRODUCTION

Yaki Tato/Keak is a small village of one of the galo community, known as "lodu galo". It is located at a distance of 38 km from the main headquarter,Aalo, and 7 km before an Adi Minyong village kaying. The Village is just a walk away from keak. "keak" is the settlement area along the main road. yaki tato is the main dwellings of the  `Tato community.
It is about 100 km  before a `Pailibo village . Many people get confused with the libo village and our village. To make it more clear, let me tell you that the name "TATO"  which many of you see on the map is the libo region, ours is the "Yaki Tato" which you wont find on the state map. However now i have tried to fix my village on the map through google earth map which you will see it later in the picture provided below.
The people here enjoys hot and humid climatic condition with a minimum of 18 degree & maximum 32 degree of temperature during the summer and about 5-13 degree during  the winter approximately. During winter the weather is pretty cold, it is very chilly, the region gets engulfed and covered by mist and heavy fog. During the morning hour you wont find the warmth of the sun before 10 'o clock.

The region is a hilly terrain region, where agriculture as the main source of food, subsistence farming like terrace or "jhum" is practiced by the inhabitants. Hunting was very common long time back but today due to "wildlife protection Act " the trend has diminished. Today many dwellers have come out of the village and opted different mode of livelihood.

This  is the last `galo village situated in the northern part of west siang district, kamba circle.
The region comes after an adi village`kerang and before `kayingAlthough this region is situated in an isolated topography,it is well connected through roadways & recently in the month of may 2011 govt has introduce electric supply to this  region. The community seems more better out of darkness, The elders of village are lucky enough to have witness their village changed this far.Today televisions and other network like tata sky and dis t.v is now very well used among various houses, now it seems like this  small  region is more  worth  living than  it was  ever before. But the  region  needs  more development and the state govt must sort out ways to meet the goal and uplift the region.

  GEOGRAPHY:

A/aerial sattelite view-`yaki tato `keak dolu

The region  is located 38 km from the headquarter of west siang `Aalo. The exact locational extent is 22'o 28'N latitude and 94'o 41' E longitude, with a perfect geographic elevation of 1277 ft to 1467 ft.

aerial sattelite view of the region, the three rivers can be clearly seen.

The region is covered with almost evergreen forest which include deciduos forest, the rainfall is very  heavy during summer.

The region has a very hot weather condition, but simultaneously it also experiences severe cold during the end of October till the first week of march, The season shifts from cold dry season to spring and than it slowly shifts its gear towards the hot climatic condition, during the month of July august the region experiences monsoon rainfall. However the month of July-Aug-Sep experiences heavy rainfall altogether.
The community has adapted themselves since ages to this area. Simultaneously `yaki tato, Keak dolu has a scenic beauty of the hills with bamboos, tawk, eatable fruit trees, deciduous trees the paddy field etc , The village is however surrounded by three rivers namely as' `Pitgong river", `"kebu river" and the mighty`yomgo river" which descends from the glaciated  mountain. The Yomgo joins the mighty river SIANG(tsiang).

The picture here is the top view of the village area from a cliff,  it was taken  in the year 2011 during my vacation. The lofty mountain around the village has been a native for all the inhabitants since ages. The trees in the hills belong to evergreen deciduous forest. The house are made up of thatch roof, it is taken from a tree,a type of date tree which we call it "tawwk" in our dialect.

 PEOPLE

The region mostly constitute `Lodu galo  community with a closely fairly manner.

The people are mostly very happy with their own intellectual duties i,e going to forest, to the fields,to the hills ,to make crafts,to make houses,to indulge in different other activities etc.Unlike other region , the people of this region has never been harsh towards demands for developmental phenomena.
People which is mostly of galo tribe is very well rich in its own culture and tradition. Still the folk tales and `ponu is very well sung by the elders like "Hv Dvllvv" and "jajinja". The style of "jajinja"  folklore is sung in the same way as that of the Bokar tribe of menchuka and china.

The people of this region is historically very rich, not in case of money but culturally and traditionally. The successor of the family is named after father's last name (word) for example: BIMIR-MIRPE-PEBI, or PENGA-NGAJUM etc
Young children usually are acquainted with their dialect . They instantly follow their elders as they grow up to be.The people are really hardworking. &  the parents who are old ,their sons and daughters help them in the field and simultaneously they also go to nearby education premises .There is one govt.primary school at keak dolu. But now it has been upgraded to Govt Middle school upto class vii standard. For further studies it depend upon them, but previously they use to move to kaying.

`bolup/boloop/galo hat.
The old peoples of this village is not just old ,they are very  expert in preparing rituals, traditional recites, even more: they are expert in making traditional galo hat called`bolup,Mats, and build houses.

The picture of an old man with the traditional hat is provided below.
The preparation of the hat takes a long time, it needs to be precisely done by needling with a specific forest rope.

 LANGUAGE

The main language is galo(`lodu). Children start speaking their own mother tongue since their childhood.

MAIN FOOD CROPS

The vilage is almost a wet region so `kharif crops specially rice is grown. Different crops are planted in different season, the people are very hardworking and they really depends on agro-based livelihood.
Crops like maize is also grown abundantly along with many fruit bearing trees, such as; orange, jack fruits, pears, pine apples and orange plantation has maximum number of output. villagers gather the orange during start of autumn and in beginning of winter months, some sell it to the nearby market and some use it for subsistence purpose.
